Pioneering the Future of Pediatric and Dental Public Health

The UCSF Open Smiles Collaborative offers you the opportunity to learn and work alongside some of the most notable leaders pushing the boundaries of dental research, clinical treatment, and public policy.

The UCSF Open Smiles Collaborative leadership team includes UCSF School of Dentistry Pediatric and Dental Public Health faculty, including the chairs of both departments, leading researchers and pioneers in the fields of health literacy and evaluation, virtual dental home telehealth, and medical dental integration, experts in implementing quality improvement programs in healthcare systems, residents, and pediatric dentist mentors and mentor ambassadors drawn from our UCSF School of Dentistry alumni and faculty. 

In addition to UCSF faculty, staff and residents, the collaboration is integrated with a network of community partners, including:

  • Experts in the fields of pediatric and dental public health
  • Federally qualified health centers (FQHCs) for clinical work and research located in Oakland, California, and Petaluma, California, adjacent to California’s famous wine country
    • Petaluma Health Center: Ramon English, Megan Connick
  • Rural local oral health programs (LOHPs) in Tuolumne County, near California’s world-renowned Yosemite National Park, and Sonoma County in the heart of wine country
  •  Smile Keepers – a 26-year-old, school-based oral health promotion program

  • Consultants in developing and managing virtual dental home (telehealth school programs)
